Ninjasaur!

When this topic came up only one thing sprung to mind... The awesome webcomic Ninjasaur!  If you like good natured, all ages fun and a dinosaur that is a ninja (not the other way around) you should check it out.

Anywho, not technically the topic but hey it is a dinosaur ninja!  Oh and his arch nemesis Professor Deadbones.

S T R I D E R v s H A U Z E R

For what ever reason I just thought Capcom's Strider Hiryu fighting Hauzer from Capcom's Red Earth/War-zard fit for this weeks pick. At least it did for me.

Blue Flaming Death!

Man I forgot how much I love this guys!  My friend Matt got me this awesome 50th anniversary Mars Attacks book and it rekindled my love all over again.  The book has all the original series cards plus the re-releases plus original sketches (did you know Wally Wood did some of the concepts for the original cards?  I didn't) plus "censored" versions.  It truly is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it if'n you dig that sort of thing.

Anywho, I remember these cards so vividly from my childhood.  The image that stuck with me is one of the Martians incinerating some poor sap so I kind of put my spin on that:

And just because I am an uber nerd, I thought I would make it into an old style Mars Attacks card:

So yeah, Mars Attacks!

"Thirteen"

Yep. I'm late with this entry. Here's my tarot card art for last week's topic.

"Thirteen" ... ink on 8"x10" claybord by Robert Elrod. This was my first attempt at using claybord. The packaging said it was a great surface for ink drawing. It's a very slick surface and the ink does NOT react to it the same way that it does to paper, obviously. That being said, once I got rolling with it, I didn't feel too uncomfortable. I think it's a surface that I will probably use again. Perhaps next time I'll get one of their black claybords and trying doing it completely with an X-Acto blade (scratchboarding). I did a little scratching on this to see how I'd like doing that. Honestly, it was kinda fun. I need to get a different blade for it, however.

M A R S A T T A C K S t a r o t

I missed out on last weeks pick, but this weeks was kind of about cards as well so I just merged the subjects. Done with colored pencil on toned card stock.

MARS ATTACKS...wait, I did this drawing how long ago?

Of course Kevin picks Mars Attacks the day after I post my art for this year's ComicFest...which just happens to be Mars Attacks. Well, I'll take it. And because I've already shown the full color version, here's the black & white:

Sorry I haven't had a chance to contribute the last few weeks...besides my day job kicking my tail, I've been working on a few things for the blog. One is the new header logo above, and part of which was this guy:

Next week, I hope to be back on the ball!

The Hermit

Late on my own topic choice. How lame.

I did 99% of this (i.e. everything but the text) on my fancy new phone. I'll probably tweak it a bit more later, but I'm calling it quits for now.

Tarot of Love...

I was looking through our tarot deck and pulled a couple out I thought were interesting.  Obviously I pulled Death, Satan and all the gory ones but one I pulled was The Lovers.  I was talking with Mr. Don Austin asking him what he was doing and he said I should do a Teenage Love Zombies one so vala, I give you TLZ of the Tarot.  I have two characters who fit this card nicely.  This may end up being a print for some cons this year.

Rama On...

I was immediately excited by this weeks topic because I know next to nothing about Hindu or their gods minus what I have absorbed through pop culture so that probably means it is all wrong.  Homer Simpson is in fact not Ganesh because Ganesh is graceful and The Temple of Doom is probably less the delicate with its handling of it.

Mostly I wanted to do a blue god.  Well there are a lot of them and most of them have multiple arms so I settled on Rama here because well, he had a bow.  While am now not an expert in Hindu I learned a little so I guess that is something and I had a blast drawing Rama.

S A R A S W A T I

I've had fun looking up all of these Hindu deities and am still reading up on them. I chose Saraswati as I liked her description. Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music, arts and science.

Why Man-Thing... You shouldn't have!

Ain't he a dear?  For the record, I tried to draw Mr. Thing about a hundred times.  I hate him.
