Savior of the Universe...

I have been taking a break this week but I wanted to do something for this weeks topic.

This was a quick one and the first thing I think of when I think of Flash Gordon is that awesome theme song by Queen.  I couldn't pass up the chance to pay tribute to both so here we have the amazing Freddie Mercury belting out Flash!  A-HA!

And just because it is so rad, the theme song:

I know it's late...

This is what I worked on last week for the Creepy/Eerie week. These are two portrait commissions I did for the JA Bowling charity.

V A M P I R E L L A

I did a quick sketch of Vampirella for this weeks pick. I've never drawn Vampirella before now that I think about it. I liked drawing her. I'll draw her again someday.

Some Creeps...

Every week I always want to do more than one character or drawing for the topic so this week I decided I was just going to do it.  I love the old Warren magazines (Creepy, Eerie, Famous Monsters of Film Land) so I probably could have gone on and on with this.  So many great artists worked for them including some of my favorites like Bernie Wrightson and Richard Corben.  I always say them as EC's kind of dirtier cousins lol.

From the top left to bottom right we have Uncle Creepy, Jenifer from the Bernie Wrightson and Bruce Jones Creepy tale, Vampirella and Cousin Eerie.  Not much of a Vampirella fan but she is kind of an institution so I wanted to draw her.

Great topic!

THE LAW

This is only my second attempt at scratchboard and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed scratching it.

"The Law" ... 8"x10" scratchboard (ink on claybord) by Robert Elrod. To see more of my work, please visit www.robertelrodllc.com.

Hunting Perps

I'm experimenting with a new acrylic painting technique with this one. Hope to have that painting posted soon.  Really was tempted to do Dark Judge Joker from the Dredd/Batman crossover, but it didn't lend itself too well to the painting experiment.

I am the LAW!

D R E D D

Sorry the Half tone version comes out so choppy. You can see it better on my B L A C K-W H I T E-G R E Y ALBUM on my deviant art gallery http://dtronaustin.deviantart.com/

I've never drawn Judge Dredd before, so this was all Greek to me. I remember being really excited for the Judge Dredd movie ( yeah the worthless Stallone one) and even had bought the "Making of" book for it, right before I went to see it.....goddamnit....

Judge Death

Finally got to play with my Cintiq...

Sourpuss

I would have loved to put more into this, cause I love Judge Dredd. However, I'm running on empty...it's been a long week. But I still like this quick sketch. Hope you do, too.

Cheers
Patrick

I AM THE LAW!

Honestly I am surprised this topic hasn't come up sooner.  I am just thankful it did because Judge Dredd is the raddest (at least in comic form).

I knew I wanted to include the Dark Judges and I originally intended just to do the four of them but I was looking at all this awesome art and and knew I had to do Dredd.  So I compromised and went with Dredd and Death.

I am taking advantage of the time I have while I am unemployed and usually spend most of Thursday working on these Timberline pieces.  Trying to push myself and get out of my comfort zone.

Anywho,  DREDD!

"Black Dagger"

My orc piece for the Timberline Draw Blog is entitled "Black Dagger". I did this with a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen and some Pitt artist pens on 8"x10" illustration board. Hope you enjoy it!

Ice Ogre!

this is just a taste before colors, thank you Patrick Hoover for the pinup on the same week as Ogar's.

I've been slacking with my blog posts but here's my Ork so far for this week. I'm going to add some stylistic smoke behind him and then send it off to Rio Herrera to find a colorist.

Went old school D & D style Orc for my ink wash...not really a LOTR guy...

Orc Orc Orc...

Apparently I didn't really know much about orcs.  For instance, according to Patrick, there are different levels of sissy for orcs and in Lord of the Rings there are tons of them but they all look different and in World of Warcraft they have giant hammers and oh wow I had no idea orcs had such rich representation.

Now knowing all this, I had a blast this week drawing some orcs.  Here is the one I came up with.  I just sort of cobbled together different elements of orcs I liked.

However, I couldn't let orc week go by without paying tribute to one of my favorite comics from the past couple years, Orc Stain.  James Stokoe is an amazing illustrator and his Orc Stain is some kind of crazy which I think is something we need in comics every now and then.  It is completely different than anything I have ever seen before.  This looker here is the mighty Tzar of Orcs.  He has the largest Gronch collection of slain orcs (Orc penis, for those not in the know).

I am not sure what happened to this series but all of Stokoe's work is amazing.  His Sullivan Sluggers and current run on Godzilla were a heck of a lot of fun.  If you are into weird fantasy and orc junk definitely check out Orc Stain.

Smorkin' Orc

Sketched this on my iPad.  I lost a more detailed version when I pressed the wrong button last night, but I kinda like the feel I got from this.

This was drawn in ProCreate with a PogoConnect stylus.

Lok'tar Ogar! Blood and Thunder!

ORCS! I love orcs. But not those sissy LoTR orcs. World of Warcraft orcs! Love drawing these guys. Here's a quick drawing I did of Thrall from World of Warcraft. I've got a colored version in the works.

But because I love orcs, here are some drawings I've done in the past...

Hopefully this inspires my fellow Timberline bloggers. Never too many orcs. Never.

Cheers
Patrick

An Orc

Just got this ink of an Orc done. I'll probably throw some half tones on it later.

Orc

It's an orc!

Did this one completely by hand.  I found some of the Faber Castell gray-tone brush markers, so figured I'd just do some stuff in the traditional method.  Red eyes done courtesy of some old markers.

So.  There y'go then.
