Flaming Goodbye...

This will be my last Timberline post so I figured I would go out...BLAZING (see what I did there)!  It has been an awesome ride and it really challenged me and helped me improve as an artist.  I wish all of you good luck and I look forward to seeing all the new work posted here.

That being said, I give you the Balrog!  I love these movies and books and I am not ashamed to say that.  This scene in the movie was epic and I have always wanted to try my hand at this guy.  I don't think I have ever drawn anything from LOTR before.

Anywho,  I say goodbye and FLY YOU FOOLS!

One does not simply leave the Timberline Draw Blog...do they?

Hello all,
This will be my last post on the most excellent Timberline Draw Blog. It's been a lot of fun over the past year, but I've decided to spend some time focusing on my other projects, such as The Outdoorsman. If you've enjoyed my work here on the blog, stop on over to my home website: Blaze Orange Studio, as I'll continue to post my work there.
Now here's my post for this week's topic...SARUMAN!

Good luck to all my fellow Timberliners! It's been great!

Cheers
Patrick

Why-Tiger

Were-tiger? No, Why-Tiger! Adventure Time fans get what I did there. Anyways, here's my drawing for the were-tiger topic week. Yeah, I'm a bit late, but the ol' day job was running me hard. Hope you like it!

Cheers

Super Saiyan Gohan

Gohan hitting Super Saiyan.

Went with a bit of Sean Galloway and Genndy Tartakovsky stylistic approach...hope to have this one inked and colored once I get my computer back from the hard drive repairs.  Y'all okay with an iPad photo?

Black and Buu...

Once again, I know little to nothing about Dragon Ball Z.  What I recall is that everybody is raging mad all the time and fighting.  I recognize the characters as Dragon Ball but I couldn't tell you their names.  Patrick suggested this guy and it seems he changes forms or something?  I dunno.  Dug the tentacle head.

KAMEHAMEHA!

A great topic choice from our 1st Prize Winner of the Denver Comic Con 2013 Timberline Scavenger Hunt, Mike Hixson! Years ago I got sucked into this show, I think when they were fighting Frieza. If that show knew how to do one thing...it was extremely long, drawn out, dramatic pauses. Soooooo long. But they had a way of doing a cliff hanger that made me come back week after week.
Here's my drawing of the ultimate hero, Goku!

Big Sister

I went with the vicious antagonist from the second game, the horrific Big Sister. Dang, is she creepy and tough as nails.

From the Unfinished Files - Batman!

Another unfinished piece, from 'Batman' week - this was my rough, but the 'finished' piece seemed to lose everything I liked about the rough, so I dropped the whole thing in what could only be described as a 'tantrum'.  Here it is, for the first time anywhere, Unfinished Batman!

Bio-Shocked

Lol another topic I know nothing about.  I don't play a lot of video games.  I prefer quick, uninvolved games like Mario games or the Lego games that aren't ginormous in scope and I can play for a little bit and put down.  I think video games are cool and I am constantly amazed by each innovation, I just don't get into them.

I didn't look up anything about Bioshock I just google searched the title and looked at some pictures.  There seemed to be a lot of this big guy and this girl.  Not sure of their relationship but everything looked so dreary I thought maybe they could use a good skip.

Anywho, my take on Bioshock.

Predator ... an incredibly late entry to the topic

"Predator" ... acrylic gouache on 11"x14" aquabord by Robert Elrod. Yeah, it's very late but it's a painting and sometimes those take a while to finish (or to get back to to finish). Hope you like it!

Visit www.robertelrodllc.com to check out more of my work. Thanks!

MASTER OF DISGUISE Code Name: Zartan!

Probably my favorite GI Joe action figure when I was growing up. Came with a swamp speeder bike, extra faces to change his identity, and his skin turned blue in sunlight! Who could ask for more? Plus, he eventually led the Dreadnoughts, a bunch of punk rock British dudes with chainsaws and flamethrowers. Yeah, this guy was awesome. So here he is!

Drawn in my Moleskine sketchbook with pencil and ink. Colored in Photoshop.

B A R O N E S S

Not much of a G. I. Joe fan. I did the Baroness. Y O, JOE.

~Don

What's the Other Half of the Battle?

I was never really into GI Joe as a kid.  I watched the cartoon sometimes but I never got into it.  Still aren't.  Besides Snake Eyes and Cobra Commando I don't really know many of the characters.

This awesome looking, not at all fetish club looking hunk of Joe villainy is Doctor Mind Bender (what school gave him a PHD in that?) and I know nothing about him other than I couldn't pass up the chance to draw a villain with a monocle.  Come on, not enough villains have monocles nowadays.

Anywho, I give you (totally awesome cod piece and all) Doctor Mind Bender!

I can't wait to do this weeks design. I just felt like posting some old GI-Joe characters. I hope you that are going to this weeks Illustration pick a fun one!

Davros!

I grew up watching Doctor Who...well, I watched it when Tom Baker was the Doctor...and then that jackass with the celery stalk in his lapel came on board...yeah. But one of my favorite villains from Tom Baker's run was Davros...first time you see him, he's all covered in cobwebs. Amazing. So here's my Davros.

Strax the Sontaran

I was going to do an illustration of both the Matt Smith and David Tennant versions of the Doctor, but Tennant kept coming out looking like a Lovecraftian frog-person from Innsmouth and I fucked up the Matt Smith part in the inking.... sooooooo..... decided to go with my favorite Sontaran instead.

and yes, that's an actual quote.

I want to see the automated laser monkeys.

t h e D O C T O R

I love Dr. Who! The old and the new, but I have to say Tom Baker's Doctor (the 4th Doctor) is still my fave. Here is my 4th Doctor collection, including The Key to Time series...BALLER!

Donna and the Adipose

The semester is finally over and I return to the world of the living! Sometimes I really don't think school is worth the bother. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the routine of posting here. If necessary, I may EXTERMINATE anything that stands in my way.
Anyway,  here's Donna and those adorable lard monsters. I might do another if I have time.

Judoon Foo!

Like Buffy and Firefly, Doctor Who escapes me.  I just can't get into it.  It seems though that I am one of the few people who don't watch this show.  I can't tell you how many Doctor Who posts come by my Facebook feed daily.  I get emails everyday from Shirt Punch and Tee Fury and 9 times out of 10 they are some Doctor Who reference I do not understand.  I am lost in a see of Whovians...  The only Doctor Who (yes I know it is "The Doctor") I am even remotely familiar with is the Tom Baker one because that was the one on PBS when I was a kid.

Anywho I had a really hard time picking what to draw.  I wanted to draw an alien but actually there were a lot of funny looking creatures that would have been fun to draw.  Part of these Timberline topics for me is doing stuff I don't normally do and there were a lot of aliens that looked right up my alley.  So I went with this giant rhino looking dude who apparently is the Judoon.  Has it's own language and everything.  Now I know a little bit more about Doctor Who.  Bring me my scarf.

Rocko's Modern Life - SketchCard Triptych

Sketchcard triptych.  Heffer was supposed to be on the right, but I didn't draw everyone in the correct scale so...yeah...

Marker, colored pencils, & Sharpie.

Timberline Draw Blog Scavenger Hunt

To celebrate Denver Comic Con, the Timberline Draw Blog is having a Scavenger Hunt! The Timberline Draw Blog is a group of Colorado artists who get together each week, and draw a new topic. Rocko's So Called Life...

Wow this was out of left field lol.  This is why I love this blog.  I couldn't recall the show when I first saw the topic choice but after looking it up I remembered the look of it.  I don't remember watching it much as a kid.  I think my younger brother was into it at the time and that is how I saw what little of it I did.  Looks like one of those bizarre 90's cartoons though.  Love the colors of it.  This is the Gentilcore-fied (?) version of Rocko.

Chatterer-er-er-huh?

Man did life get busy recently.  I started this at ComicFest then got the con crud pretty hard (thank you Scott Springer).  Then I started a new job and moved apartments.  Feels good to be caught up again.

Anywho... This is Chatterer.  I always dug the look of this guy even though he didn't do much in the movies but look menacing.  Don Austin brought up that I should do Pleasure Toast from Venture Bros. and I can't believe I didn't think of that first.  Oh well maybe another opportunity will present itself.  You hunger for it...

Still working on Rocko, but I needed to throw the cenobite themed piece up first. I tried to do it as if it was the last page to a short story. For a pulp novel or dime book haha. I hope it works and sorry about any grammatical errors.

C E N O B I T E

I was going to watch Hellraiser again after I herd about this weeks topic, only to look through my collection and remember that I don't have it. I need to pick that shit up. Well the first two. Anyhow this is my own version of a Cenobite, done on toned paper in colored pencil.
