From the Unfinished Files: He-Man (and Trap Jaw)

Here's an unfinished Timberline sketch from way back that never saw the light of day - UNTIL NOW.  From "Masters of the Universe" week: He-Man and Trap Jaw!

I don't think I have ever drawn a He-Man character, even when I was a kid. I loved the show and watched it all the time but still, I have no recollection of ever once drawing one of the characters which is kind of weird.

A couple of years ago I was driving home from my job and stopped by Wal Mart to pick up a movie (I was a bouncer so this was like at 2am in the morning), and in the $5 bin I found a dvd collection of the "10 best episodes of He-Man". So I bought that shit because I hadn't seen the show since the 80's and I remembered loving the show so I was all ready to marathon and watch some episodes. I got through 10 mins of the first episode and turned it off. Just could not deal! lol I have come close to putting the dvd in for this week to watch an episode or two for reference but it's still just sitting on my desk.

Merman, Dad. Merman!

I was looking at some of the old action figures and chose to do Merman. I never watched He-Man, so I had no reference for characterization. I hope this does him justice.

Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle Yeah!

This blog has me occasionally drawing things that I had really never expected to draw. This week is one of those weeks. I remember the show being on when I was much younger. No. I never did watch it. The closest I've come to watching it was a music video that featured clips from the show to a pretty funny song. Anyway, here's an ink drawing of the title character from "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe". Hope you enjoy it.


Oh yeah, I used a photo of a toy for reference. Haw!

Ok- so the Pencils are mine from about a month ago- I am working on a cartoon villain project and he was the first one done. sorry for cheating on this one, but he was already done and I am neck deep in two card sets and AP's from a third.

The Stinkor!

Just like Patrick I was all about He-Man as a kid.  I had so many of those damn figures.  I hade castle Greyskull, the tigers, the works!  I even had this crazy Skeletor whose chest would flip to show different types of battle damage.  When I was looking through the internets there was one figure I remember all to clearly...Stinkor.  Man that toy stunk!  Leave it to Mattel to sell a toy thats special feature was to stink!  Come to think of it Moss Man was pretty rank too, though I am not sure that was intended.

Any wizzle, who would hang out with Stinkor?  I mean right up front he is advertising he stinks.  I bet he is lonely...

Ol' Skullface

Alright. Here's hoping this will inspire the Timberline guys to post up some Masters art. I thought that this might be a less than popular topic, but I went for it anyways. MOTU was a huge part of my childhood, and I still love it to this day. Sure it was ridiculous, and now synical grown-ups can look back at the cartoon as being homo-erotic...but I remember He-Man as one of my first super heroes. There wasn't anything he couldn't accomplish. Literaly the MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE. I still get chills when I hear that Filmation jingle, and then the most awesome theme song ever. For me, as a kid...it was empowering. Probably the same reason I listen to heavy metal music as an adult.

If there was one thing I always regreted, was that they ended up making Skeletor and his minions a bunch of jerks. They got dumber and dumber each season...each episode even. So here's my tribute to evil...when I played with my action figures, these guys were always badass. Enjoy.
