I think this is the first movie I recall seeing Danny Trejo in and was my first thought when Robert picked him as our topic this week. I think I grisled him up a but more than he looked in that movie but his face is so much fun to draw. When somebody says their face has character, they are speaking of Danny Trejo.

"Machete"
Machete - Lindsay the Sister
My plan was to do a sketch, then block in some light colors and call it good, but I got WAY into it. Stayed up 'til 1am last night working on it, and more this morning. Hope you like it! Original sketch after the cut.

Trejo
I was looking through Danny's IMDB page and he has been in a ton of stuff. Working man! Yeah when reading through it I said to myself "oh yeah I remember he was in that!", like the X Files and such. Anyhow this is my entry. I think it was a screen from Death Race 2 or some such. I figured if you just drew him with his shirt off people would know who it was.

All Out Of Bubblegum...
Man this topic was a doozy! I had such a hard time trying to decide which movie I wanted to work from. Halloween is one of my all time favorite movies, followed closely by all the Kurt Russel ones. The Thing is a perfect movie. I even love Mouth of Madness and Prince of Darkness (man Alice Cooper is creepy in that). The thing I love so much about Timberline is getting the chance to draw new and different things so with that in mind I decided it has to be They Live. Classic. I just saw the cover for the new blu-ray version and that sealed the deal.
The Thing
I had to do The Thing this week. I wanted to do a Big Trouble piece, but I didn't like the way it was looking, so I moved on to my second favorite Carpenter flick.

ESCAPE FROM D.I.A.
Damn! Patrick beat me to the Snake! LOL
So I was completely geeked out on this weeks choice. I’m a HUGE John Carpenter fan! I Might do another post but I had to do a little Snake Plissken action. It’s Kurt Russell for god sakes! Who doesn’t have a Kurt Russell man crush, I ask you?!!
So here is my entry “ESCAPE FROM D.I.A.”
During the Denver Comic Con some weird ass guy stopped by me and Jolyon’s table and started talking about weird things, as weird guys tend to do. Amongst his many ramblings he brings up the Denver International Airport conspiracy. I had never herd of it and meant to look it up when I got home, but of course promptly forgot about that shit. Then for some reason I remembered the DIA conspiracy a couple of days ago and decided to look it up…holy smokes if you haven’t herd about this nonsense do yourself a favor and look this laugh bonanza up on the internet!!! At the very least to see all of the little in jokes I put in the piece. Finding out that they wanted to have lasers coming out of the “Blucifer” statues’ eyes was worth the price of admission!
After looking at all of this nonsense about the D.I.A. conspiracy and getting this weeks pick I had to do a little mash up. It seems like it would fit right in with this universe, or it would be a fun comic to read. At the very least it made me laug! I know I hate it when a friend asks me to pick them up or drop them off at that damn place! LOL
Lets see what comes in next guys!

CALL ME SNAKE.
Too many choices for John Carpenter movies...I love just about every one he's made. But I had to choose, and here's my choice:
Kurt Russell is the coolest mother f#cker. Just the coolest. And because of that, Snake Plissken is as well. I'm gonna do some color on this, but I wanted to get the black and white up, as I've been working on my inking.
Excited about what the rest of the boys bring.
Cheers

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Sketch + Ink
I was kind of ambitious this week. I wanted to do a full digitally painted portrait of Japansese weirdo genius Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. Well, long story short, I ran out of time, so here's a digitally inked sketch.
And if you haven't seen her disturbingly cute video for PonPonPon take a look!

Gezora...The Magnificent
For my Tokyo piece I had originally started a Tetsuo from Akira drawing. Half way through I decided I didn't really like it, so I went the other obvious route; giant monsters. I let my wife pick a monster from a list of monsters that destroy Tokyo for a living and she chose Gezora. I don't know when I'll have a chance to get a decent scan of it, so here's a digital photograph.

Tokyo drift
I know I was pretty stoked when I herd this weeks pic of Tokyo. I guess Tokyo just makes me think of all the Japanese things I love, so my entry this week is just a small tribute to all of the great things that have influenced my work. I dedicated my weekly sketch jam to this weeks theme. I wish I could put all of the things that I love from Japan on one sheet but I’d be drawing till next month! So I picked a couple of my faves.
Godzilla needs no introduction.
Kay on the power bike from AKIRA.
The original Gundam RX-78-2.
Deunan Knute who might be considered a complete badass if she wasn’t already partners with the most badass cyborg ever Briareos.
Last and certainly not least Ryu from street fighter.
I look at this page and it just makes me think about all ton of other fantastic things that come out of that place.

Neo Tokyo...
The first thing I thought of when I saw this topic was Godzilla. The second thing I thought of was Akira. I guess that says volumes about my geekiness when the first two things I think of a country are a giant lizard that destroys it and cartoon/comic.
I went with Akira, Tetsuo to be more precise because I have never drawn anything from Akira before and I thought it would be fun. It was lol but that mutant arm was killer.

The Count
Since I did Boo Berry and Frankenberry I thought adding Count Chocula was a no brainer. I am going to donate all three of these to one of the Aurora shooting charity events coming up.
My Tokyo piece is still coming up!

Coop
I didn't watch this show when it was on but I watched most of it on Netflix. I got about as far as David Duchovony in drag and decided the show had gone downhill lol. I never found out how it ended or if we ever found out who it was Coop was always talking to on his recorder. I really wanted to know that! Anyway the thing I remember the most about it was all the coffee and pie.

Log Lady
Just a sketch. I wish I had time to do a full on portrait! Drew this from memory, could be way off, but hey - she's holding a log. I always remember her glasses being really crooked.

Audrey Horne
So I love David Lynch movies and I remember Twin Peaks as being a really awesome show when I was a kid. I only watched it sporadically, so I can’t remember too much of what was going on. Only that it was pretty crazy and entertaining as most things are by David Lynch. I need to borrow the series from someone or watch it on Net Flix (I’m the only person in America who doesn’t have Net Flix apparently. So I wasn’t too sure what I was going to draw up for this weeks pick, but I remembered that it stared Sherilyn Fenn so I just hunted down a pic of her from the show and drew it up. My printer is out of ink so the pic I was working with was pretty faded and that affected the likeness, but it kind of has that weird quality that those dream sequences have. Either way it’s what I came with this week.

//Two-Face
Here's my piece for Batman. Initially, I'd wanted to go with Commissioner Gordon, but I had recently seen the two-part Two-Face origin episode from Batman: The Animated Series and just had to go with this. I'm thinking of enlarging this and transferring to a large canvas for a traditional oil painting (but that probably will never happen--haha).
Calendar Man
Here's my Calendar Man. I put up a Facebook post looking for suggestions with an original art incentive. Luke Henderson was pulled from the hat and this Calendar Man will be his.
Batman-quick and dirty
Well as usual I didn't have much time this week for extras but I haven't posted in a while and it WAS my pick so I sketched this up real quick. I do manage to stop in and see everyone's entries and I love what i've been seeing. So much talent in this group and it just keeps growing.

Batgirl
Kind of cheating on this one because I did this at Galaxy Fest.. and still haven't finished it. But I'm posting it anyway.

Kittylady....
I did Catwoman for this weeks pick. I’ve never drawn her before so that was fun. Well I guess this is more my version of her on the tumbler, none of it is accurate to the movie as I didn’t want to hunt down a pic and just draw that. Still after watching all of those movies I felt there were some interesting sort of homage moments to AKIRA in certain scenes. Kind of bizarre but it’s not the first time the bat has done it. Hell if you want a real weird tie in Katsuhiro Otomo has even done a short black and white Batman story for DC. Anyhow, after Kevin and I saw the Movie on Sunday he was saying the only reason why I liked Catwoman was because they had her on the tumbler…gotta say it was a good call on Nolan’s part in my book! LOL
Anyhow I think I’m going to frame the line art for this one and do it up for the charity auction coming up. Bring on the BATS folks!!!! :D

My Bats
My all time favorite incarnation of Batman hands down was the 90's animated series. I think that show perfectly balanced all the elements of Batman without going to far into the dark and grim Batman or to far into the Adam West kind of goofiness of Batman (which I also love). It kept the sensibility of the comics while making it a bit darker but keeping Batman firmly rooted as a hero. That is my Batman. I love the silly outrageousness of that character in his world. I like seeing Jokers ridiculous schemes or the batwing resembling a bat. Part of the reason I love Batman is because he is so flexible as a character that he can be utilized in so many different ways and I do enjoy some of the darker takes on him but in the end he is a super hero and I think some of the super has been missing from him recently.
My Batman isn't really based on a particular artist more like the way I think of him. There are certain characters that when I think of them I see a particular artists take on them IE Spider-Man is Mark Bagely or Todd McFarlane, Wolverine is Frank Miller and Ghost Rider is Mark Teixeira but Batman I just see a look and have a feeling of what I think he is and I tried to capture that the best I could here.
