D R E D D

Sorry the Half tone version comes out so choppy. You can see it better on my B L A C K-W H I T E-G R E Y ALBUM on my deviant art gallery http://dtronaustin.deviantart.com/

I've never drawn Judge Dredd before, so this was all Greek to me. I remember being really excited for the Judge Dredd movie ( yeah the worthless Stallone one) and even had bought the "Making of" book for it, right before I went to see it.....goddamnit....

S T R I D E R v s H A U Z E R

For what ever reason I just thought Capcom's Strider Hiryu fighting Hauzer from Capcom's Red Earth/War-zard fit for this weeks pick. At least it did for me.

Underdog Redesign

The show my mom tells me I enjoyed most was Underdog.  I went back to the original designs and realized how lame underdog looked,  with that baggy shirt and misshapen head.  Here's a new one, and a bonus Simon bar Sinister sketch.

S E A S O N S g r e e t i n g s

I really liked what Patrick Hoover did with his post, so I figured I'd copy his idea and do a holiday card for my graphic novel LENZ. I did it in B&W with the grey tones because that's how I do the comic. Kind of funny to see a B&W holiday card as well. Anyhow I had fun with it, and I look forward to get back to doing pages for it in the new year!

M A C R O S S r o b o t e c h

Well I guess I’m going to be the anchor leg for this weeks entry. I’m a huge Macross fan so I just did sketch jams all week long to honor one of my favorite series. Robotech introduced me Macross and if people don’t know Robotech  actually comprised of 3 separate series that have nothing to do with each other in Japan. I included something from all three series, but my favorite of the three is Macross hands down. I’ve been wanting to do some fan art of Macross , as this is its 30th anniversary this year and this gave me a good excuse to final get some drawings for it done. I’ll probably color these up later, but for now I guess you guys get the line art.

Don

All of these were done with ballpoint pen and HB pencil

Actually I did this one a few months back. I wanted to redesign the Hover Tank Mechs arm joints as it was the only thing that bothered me about it's original design. Still a classic! The Hover Tanks were in the second war in the Robotech saga (series is called Southern Cross in Japan). XD

This is Rook on a cyclone, which is from the third war in the Robotech saga (Known as Mospeada in Japan). I was a big fan of those cycle mecha and Rook as a character.
Hikaru (a.k.a. Rick Hunter in Robotech) and his VF-1J Valkyrie in Battloid mode. This is the main mech in the Macross series.
I wanted to do an action scene with a Valkyrie in Gerwalk mode so I really like how this one came out, although my favorite detail is the Excalibur destroid mech blowing away the Zentradi in the background. LOL
I had to get a little "Skull one" action with a Zentradi Battle Pod!
And yeah a little fun with this one, as I thought about if I were a Valkyrie ace in the Macross universe and how I would rock out a custom paint job of my ill VF-IJ. D-Tron smaning em up son! Dayum! Dayum! DAAAAAAAAAAAYUM! XD

L A D Y F O O T

At first I when I saw this weeks topic I thought about doing the Sasquatch from the Capcom game Darkstalkers. Then I thought about how popular Felicia was from that game and wondered what could have been if they had taken the same concept that they did with Felicia, but did it with the Sasquatch character. More that anything I just wanted to make a gross anime/furry character to creep out Kevin Gentilcore.

A R M O R I N E

I gotta admit that I didn't know much about this weeks pick of Valiant comics, so google was my friend on this one. I picked ARMORINES because it had mechs, so I figured I could run with that. Actually looking at the comic kind of reminded me a little of Katsuhiro Otomos short story Fairwell to Weapons.

I finished this all from drawing, to ink, to tones today so I'm pleased. Now I get to relax. Still have to catch up on Toms' pick so don't think I forgot! XD

m c C H R I S

I didn't have much time this week to work on anything as I was getting ready for a show, but I still wanted to post something this week. I'm a huge MC Chris fan and I did this sketch a couple of years and it was inspired by a hidden track entitled Race Wars on the MC Chris goes to hell album. It was a skit that was kind of Mad Max inspired so I thought it would be fun to give the image an anime theme. Anyhow I hope we get some more last min entries this week, it's been kind of thin the last couple of weeks.

Anime TLZ

I used to be a pretty big anime and manga fan back in middle school and high school.  I think there are just barely elements of it left over in my style today.  So I looked all over the internet, including Deviant Art (which is pay-dirt for manga/anime) and I discovered something called Chibi.  Well I had seen it before but I didn't know it had a name.  Super cutesy, big headed anime style characters so that is what I went with.  Oh, that is Fausto and Ruthanne from my webcomic Teenage Love Zombies.

At the Dry Dock with my end of the night "one for the road" growler. I got a ride so no worries! lol
That's Rob Elrod on the left and Keven Gentilcore on the right. Can't wait to grab some brews and scare away tables with the Timbeline crew again :D

Son for Hire, Sword for Hire

Here's my drawing this week...fresh out of my sketchbook. Please forgive the quality of the image, as I took it with my iPhone.
I love LW&C, though my exposure was only to the first volume of the manga, put out by Dark Horse. I also read it late, and it's hard to come by the later volumes. But it's amazing. If you haven't read it, try and track it down.

Cheers

Tokyo drift

I know I was pretty stoked when I herd this weeks pic of Tokyo. I guess Tokyo just makes me think of all the Japanese things I love, so my entry this week is just a small tribute to all of the great things that have influenced my work. I dedicated my weekly sketch jam to this weeks theme. I wish I could put all of the things that I love from Japan on one sheet but I’d be drawing till next month! So I picked a couple of my faves.

Godzilla needs no introduction.

Kay on the power bike from AKIRA.

The original Gundam RX-78-2.

Deunan  Knute who might be considered a complete badass if she wasn’t already partners with the most badass cyborg ever Briareos.

Last and certainly not least Ryu from street fighter.

I look at this page and it just makes me think about all ton of other fantastic things that come out of that place.

Kittylady....

I did Catwoman for this weeks pick. I’ve never drawn her before so that was fun. Well I guess this is more my version of her on the tumbler, none of it is accurate to the movie as I didn’t want to hunt down a pic and just draw that. Still after watching all of those movies I felt there were some interesting sort of homage moments to AKIRA in certain scenes. Kind of bizarre but it’s not the first time the bat has done it. Hell if you want a real weird tie in Katsuhiro Otomo has even done a short black and white Batman story for DC. Anyhow, after Kevin and I saw the Movie on Sunday he was saying the only reason why I liked Catwoman was because they had her on the tumbler…gotta say it was a good call on Nolan’s part in my book! LOL

Anyhow I think I’m going to frame the line art for this one and do it up for the charity auction coming up. Bring on the BATS folks!!!! :D

Metal Gear

Well I guess it will be just me and Patrick holding it down this week. Guess I picked a dud of a topic…fuck it! I dig it so I did two pieces! lol

My first is from Metal Gear Solid with Snake and the Metal Gear REX. I picked that game up in college and it rocked my world! Been a big fan since then.

The second work is of Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4. I didn't mind him in Metal Gear Solid 2, but everybody seemed to hate him and then they bring him back all badass in the 4th game. So I get to play as crappy Raiden and not super awesome cyber ninja Raiden? WTF?

Vampire Hunter D

I think I was 13 years old when I first saw the Vampire Hunter D anime. Actually I think my mom bought it for me for my birthday. I had never herd of it and she just got it for me because she knew I was into anime. I remember having  thought it might be a bust before I started the VHS tape but after watching the movie it ended up being one of my all time favorites! I guess I’m a sucker for halfies ;) I think this classifies as undead, as he is a half vampire and the son of Dracula (sorry if I spoiled it for you but you had like 20 something years to see the movie).Either way that’s my entry for this weeks pick, so bring on more undead hordes XD
