Late post: Pris

Okay, I apologize for being such a bad member, but I didn't want to do a Valiant character, and I joined AFTER you guys did Blade Runner, so here's my late contribution to that.  I may have another version of this illustration, since I plan to light box it and play around with ink washes to see how I want to approach my graphic novel project.

Done at the Dark Goddess Festival when I wasn't getting commissions.  Marker and Prismacolor art stix.

I used this as my approach to my Halo illustration, which is coming shortly.

"I am the game"

I made a papercraft cube of the Frank Lloyd Wright Ennis House tiles used for Deckard's apartment in Blade Runner. 

This rendering shows both sides of the cube.

I finally got around to being able to do some of these! Rock on! So here's Pris from Blade Runner. I tried to get as minimal as I could with this as a challenge.

My Triumphant Return to Timberline! ...cricket, cricket...

Today's Blade Runner piece has seriously been the first drawing/painting I've done for myself in three weeks. I apologize for my long absence, just had too much stuff on my plate, much of which wasn't even art related. After three weeks though, it felt friggen fantastic to do something that was just fun and free. I started out today by sketching out Sean Young's character Rachael. As I brought the sketch to a finish, it occurred to me that it looked like an old Victorian portrait. I thought this was interesting since Blade Runner takes place in the future. But relationships like that interest the shit out of me so I went for it. Did a sketch of Deckard too, painted both in PS and used a stock image of a fancy frame I found online to finish them off. All told about 3 and half hours of work. It went fast, but it always does when you're enjoying yourself.

Another great choice this week. I'm also a huge fan of Blade Runner, and of Ridley Scott in general. So many cool characters to choose from, and so many iconic visual moments...it was hard to choose. But I went with Edward James Olmos' character, Gaff. He barely says anything in the flick, but he has a defining line at the end; the title of this post. He's got those crazy blue eyes, and the origami he leaves everywhere...

So here you go. Excellent choice, Kevin!

Tears in the rain...

It took me all week to decide on what do draw for this topic. I kept going back and forth between all the characters but finally landed on Batty. The was only one way for me to draw him and that is from his classic death scene (SPOILERS JERKS).

The first time I saw this movie was with Harrison Ford's narration on TV. Every other time I saw it since was the director's cut we are all so familiar with. I thought I was crazy, that maybe I dreamed it, but behold the power of DVD! I kind of tend to prefer the director's cut all though I do like the narration except for this scene it kind of kills the moment. Anywho, Blade Runner has got to be in my top 5 movies.

Missing Replicant...

I love the movie Bladerunner. I remember finding it on my dads Beta collection and watching it when I was 10yrs old and thinking to myself“ This was the best mover ever, why the hell have I not seen this yet?”. Probably not an appropriate movie for a 10 year old, but never the less it had a pretty big impact on my art and has left an echo that you can see in my work to this day. The female Replicants, Zhora and Priss were truly as Bryant (M. Emmet Walsh) put it the beauty and the beast.

So a couple of months ago my father was watching the movie and the scene where Bryant is explaining how many Replicants had escaped and come to earth, and he points out that there was a sixth Replicant that was mentioned but you never see in the film...I had never noticed this before!

I googled it and yeah apparently there was another female Replicant named Mary/Irmgard Batty who was in the original script and got cut due to Budget issues. But the scene had already been filmed and had been left alone with the mention of the 6th Replicant.

So this is my Nexus 6 version of the lost Replicant Mary.

If only you could see what I've seen with "your" eyes
